     <title>2008.05.14 New DownloadFonts.sh Released</title>
     <description>
      Dugan Chen has released an improved version of the DownloadFonts shell script available on unifont.org/fontguide.
      The new script changes /bin/sh to /bin/bash to avoid problems with distros that
      symlink /bin/sh to something other than bash. The script now also takes account of newer versions of Khmer and
      Thai fonts, and removes old and broken links of fonts that are no longer available.

     <title>2008.02.08 libLASi-1.1.0, a C++ Postscript stream output interface library, has been released</title>
     <description>
       The LASi development team is proud to announce the release of libLASi-1.1.0 which has significant improvements (a new build system based on CMake and some small code updates to make libLASi more robust) compared to prior releases.

The new CMake-based build system allows building libLASi on both Unix and Windows platforms and automatically detects freetype version so split releases to cater to different freetype versions are no longer necessary.

The robustness improvements mean that libLASi now renders an empty box rather than erroring out in those rare cases where glyph information returned by pango/cairo/fontconfig is not available or else is in a glyph form that is unusable by libLASi.

The file release area (including release notes, a detailed ChangeLog, the source tarball for version 1.1.0, and an md5 checksum for that tarball) is located at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=187113.

Enjoy using libLASi to make some very nice looking PostScript results and your feedback is welcome.

-- Alan W. Irwin on behalf of the libLASi developers, 2008-02-08.

     <title>2008.01.09 Arkandis Digital Foundry Quality Free Latin Fonts for Professional Work</title>
     <description>
      The Arkandis Digital Foundry has released a great collection of high quality Latin fonts
      in PostScript and TrueType/OpenType formats for professional publication and graphic work.
      The fonts are variously released under the AFPL and GPL with font exception licenses. The
      collection originated a few years ago with ADF's typographer's desire to have a set of quality
      free fonts for artistic endeavors that could serve as an alternative to expensive commercial fonts.
      The fonts have now been redeveloped for use with Scribus. Professional and aspiring graphic artists
      alike should not miss the opportunity to download this excellent collection of free fonts. The collection
      is listed under the "Scientific, Scholarly, Artistic" tab on the Unifont FontGuide.

     <title>2007.05.11 Liberation Fonts Released by Red Hat</title>
     <description>
      Red Hat announced the public release of the Liberation fonts at the Red Hat Summit.
      These fonts are designed to be metrically equivalent to widely used proprietary
      Microsoft platform fonts. There are three sets of fonts, Sans (a substitute for Arial,
      Albany, Helvetica, Nimbus Sans L, and Bitstream Vera Sans), Serif (a substitute for
      Times New Roman, Thorndale, Nimbus Roman, and Bitstream Vera Serif) and Mono (a substitute
      for Courier New, Cumberland, Courier, Nimbus Mono L, and Bitstream Vera Sans Mono). The
      fonts were created by Ascender Corporation, a leading commercial font developer, and are
      currently licensed under the GPL+font exception license.
      See the Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic section under the Europe tab for more information.

      <title>2007.04.20 Download Script Enhanced Significantly</title>
      <description>
       Dugan Chen has once again made a generous contribution to this resource
       by significantly revising and updating the DownloadFonts.sh shell script.
       All broken links in the script have been fixed. In addition, you can
       now break and resume downloading. For example, if you lose an internet
       connection, you can use CTRL+C to stop the script, then restart it after
       you obtain a new internet connection -- the script will continue where
       it left off. Downloading of the Sanskritweb.org's Chandas and Uttara
       GPL'ed Devanagari fonts has also been added to the script. Enjoy!
